Apple drives both premium iPhone sales, global production in India

The idea Apple was failing to establish itself in India —and outsold by Samsung and Chinese brands —has been overturned by new research showing that iPhone ate up over 75% of all premium smartphone sales in the subcontinent in the fourth quarter, while also posting strong iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPod sales. Along with "double-digit" growth, Apple is also expanding its production in the subcontinent for audiences globally.

Note: India shut down all manufacturing operations in the last week of March, but earlier this month Tripp Mickle of the Wall Street Journal wrote up his imaginary tale explaining how Tim Cook suposedly made the grand mistake of investing in China in an article that didn’t even mention Apple’s manufacturing in India, which has been going on since 2017. Everyone in the tech media nodded along as if he hadn’t just omitted significant material facts to concoct a farcical story that other media outlets took seriously.
